A brand-new tasting room to experience Fryer’s Cove Wines
By Admin | 25th May 2023
It’s time to raise your glasses and make a toast to a new, one-of-a-kind, experience along the Cape West Coast.
Fryer’s Cove has reimagined their tasting room and created a brand-new, fresh and contemporary space where you can enjoy your Fryer’s Cove wines with unparalleled ocean views and warm West Coast hospitality.
Located along the pristine coastline of the Cape West Coast lies Doringbaai, home to a small, but hardy fishing community and arguably the world’s only vineyard this close to the icy Atlantic Ocean.
Fryer’s Cove is also the only vineyard within the Bamboes Bay ward, the smallest ward in South Africa.
The new tasting room, right on the water’s edge, is the perfect place to explore and enjoy the unique and intriguing wines synonymous with Fryer’s Cove. Take in a breath of cool coastal décor, the spectacular glistening views of Doringbaai harbour, all whilst enjoying that perfect glass of Sauvignon Blanc. And if the vast ocean views are not enough, you can peer straight into the Old Crayfish factory that houses the working cellar. Here you will find Winemaker and Manager, Liza Goodwin, honing her craft. Using ingenuity and age-old practices, she pumps ice-cold sea water through the cellar to cool tanks during fermentation, all while keeping a watchful eye on the oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc’s and blending Grenache Noir and Cinsault.
An impressive new fish tank has also taken pride of place. Filled with 6000 litres of sea water, pumped through daily from the cellar, the tank showcases a myriad of local marine life found in the bay just meters away from you. The fish tank is also home to 600 bottles of Fryer’s Cove Wines.
No trip down the West Coast would be complete without sampling the local cuisine either. The new menu at The Jetty Restaurant is a unique combination of local flavours, classic seafood dishes and modern renditions of age-old favourites. The Head Chef has taken the utmost care in crafting an exciting and riveting menu with local ingredients that offers guests a variety of West Coast favourites such as Snoekkoekies (fish cakes), Kerrievis (curry fish) and Roosterkoek, freshly caught line fish, and more. On summer days you can sit back and enjoy a Fish Braai on the Jetty, Prawn Pans and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
Fryer’s Cove is a quintessential West Coast experience, where wine lovers and adventurers can come together to enjoy unique and intriguing wines, delicious food, crashing waves, and that feeling of time standing still.
