Fine wine, fresh design: Vergelegen uncorks new wine labels in UK

Those seeking out the best of South Africa will be very familiar with the range of wines from Vergelegen.  However, an evolution has taken place as the latest vintages are now appearing in stunning new packaging that reflects the estate’s rich history, natural beauty, and dedication to sustainability.

The refreshed labels are inspired by the 325-year-old estate’s layered history which includes a finely restored manor house, majestic camphor trees that were declared national monuments back in 1942, and rustic farm gates, which represent the warm welcome that this Somerset West estate is renowned for.

Design inspiration also comes from the ancient Octagonal Garden which features well-established trees and abundant annual plantings including its vast camellia collection – the estate is home to the only International Camellia Garden of Excellence in Africa. 

Working in harmony with nature to implement the estate’s multiple sustainability initiatives is at the heart of winemaking at Vergelegen and this is reflected in the images included new label range. Committed to planting 1000 trees annually, the team at the estate is developing a 54-hectare arboretum. Another recent innovation sees indigenous, beneficial insects used to naturally control pests in the vineyards. The goal is less vine disease and higher quality grapes, ensuring that in decades to come, Vergelegen’s winemakers can produce excellent wine from healthy vineyards that are currently 20-25 years old - a great asset with fruit quality improving over time.
